On August 5, 2021, the Texas Commissioner of Education issued new public health guidance regarding students who are close contacts to a lab-confirmed COVID19 positive individual.

  • Students who are considered to be a close contact with a lab-confirmed COVID19 positive individual will be notified by the campus administration. Each case will be addressed as outlined in the new TEA Public Health Guidance that ensures parents are informed and can make an educated decision for the safety of their children.
  • Any child, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, shows symptoms as determined by a health professional or tests positive for COVID19 must quarantine or isolate respectfully.
  • If a student is considered a close contact/high-risk exposure and shows NO symptoms, other members of the family are not required to quarantine and other siblings in the same home may continue to attend school.

According to this TEA Public Health Guidance, parents of students who are considered a close contact to a lab-confirmed COVID19 positive individual now have the option to opt out to quarantine their children for the designated 10-day period.

Parents of students who are identified as a close contact to a positive individual at his/her school will receive a notification from the school. If a parent decides to opt out their child of quarantine, they must sign an opt out notification form and return it to campus front office.

Any parent, who chooses to opt out will still need to continue to screen their child DAILY for any symptoms prior to arriving to school AND must also notify the campus immediately if their child shows any new symptoms of possible infection. The child must stay home if exhibiting any symptoms.
