The Board of Trustees consists of seven Board
members elected to serve, without compensation, for
overlapping terms of four years each. Candidates do not
represent specific geographical areas; rather they represent Canutillo Independent School
District at large.
The Board of Trustees performs
many different tasks in governing and overseeing the management of the
school district. They are charged with the responsibility of
providing the highest quality educational program possible for the
students in our district. School trustees make all final decisions
regarding school district priorities, policies, personnel,
textbooks, expenditures, investments, and growth management.
The Board of Trustees appoints the Superintendent
to direct, manage and coordinate the educational and administrative programs
for the district. This is done in accordance with
Board policies and the rules and regulations set forth by
the Texas Education Agency in the Texas Education and Administrative
Codes.
The Board of Trustees also appoints the Internal Auditor to assist the
Board and administration in accomplishing the District’s goals and
objectives. This is accomplished by bringing a systematic,
disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of
District operations, internal controls, risk management, and the
overall governance process..
The Board of Trustees has established an Audit
Committee which is a subset of the Board of Trustees. It consists of at least
three members appointed by the Board President. This Committee assists the
Board in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities for 1) the financial
reporting process, 2) the system of internal controls, 3)
the audit process, and 4) the District’s process
for monitoring compliance with applicable local/state/federal regulations and laws, District policies and administrative
procedures. Currently, the Audit Committee is comprised
of Frank Lerma-Chairperson, Armando Rodriguez, and Margarito
Arellano.
