Family and Consumer Science  


Family and Consumer Sciences Education prepares students for personal and family life across the life span as they manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society.  The program focus is on family life, work life, and career by providing opportunities to develop the appropriate knowledge, skills and behaviors.  Course work is expended to include application and integration of technology, multicultural education, leadership development, higher-order thinking, problem-solving and core academic competencies.

 
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a dynamic and effective student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.  Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including teen pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, teen violence and career exploration.  Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life- necessary in the home and workplace.

Texas Association of Future Educators (T.A.F.E.)

T.A.F.E. (Texas Association of Future Educators) is a statewide organization that offers high school students the opportunity to explore the teaching profession. We accomplish this by creating and supporting various activities, workshops, contests, scholarships and summer camps.

T.A.F.E. (pronounced "taffy") is a statewide non-profit (501 c3) student organization led by dynamic and passionate teachers/sponsors. The organization was created in 1984 so that the best high school students in Texas would have the opportunity:

arrow To learn about the teaching profession, its opportunities, responsibilites, and its important role in our democracy.
arrow To explore their interests and abilities in relation to the various fields of teaching.
arrow To cultivate the qualities of character, service, and leadership which are essential in good teachers.
arrow To learn how and where teachers receive their training, the cost, scholarships available, number of years required, certification requirements, and standards.
arrow To study the lives and influences of great teachers.
