PARENT ORIENTATION
GUIDELINES: THE EAGLE'S NEST DAY CARE
 Admissions:
Applications for enrollment of children ranging from zero months through four years old will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Priority for enrollment will be given to children of teen parents enrolled in CISD schools. Second priority will be equal to children of district employees. If space is needed for a teen parent the district employee will be given a notice to withdraw their child. The last child enrolled in the group is the one to be withdrawn.
Maintenance of Waiting List
Children will be placed on a waiting list on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Open Door Policy
Parents are welcome to come in any time. Students need to bring in a hall pass if it’s during class. All parents are invited to come and share culture-specific information and objects.

First Visit
Visiting the center before enrollment helps make the child's first experience at the center a pleasant one. It also gives the parent the opportunity to get to know the staff. "Mini" visits (less than one hour) are encouraged. Short stays help the child gain trust in the staff and become familiar with the surroundings.
 Health Checks
The children are checked daily for signs of contagious disease (see Daily Health Check Sheet). If a child has symptoms of contagion, the parent is notified immediately, and the child must be picked up within an hour. Children exhibiting illness will be secluded from the group to assure his/her comfort and to protect the health of other children at the center. If the child is believed to be ill, s/he must be away from the center for at least 24 hours. If the child has been sent home from the center he/she may return with a doctor’s note and medication the next day. The parent may also be informed about borderline health situations and asked to make a determination on the child’s wellness.
Physical and Immunizations
All children enrolled at the day care must have a physical or an appointment to have one done within five days of enrollment. An immunization record is also needed for registration to be complete. The day care emphasizes the importance of both these items.
 Attendance
Regular attendance is expected of all children in the program. In order to maintain staff/child ratios, it is requested that parents call the center if they will not be bringing their child, or if they will be bringing their child in later than the scheduled time. The Child Care Manger staff will notify the child's teacher of any changes in schedule.
Absences
Please call the day care at (915) 877-7574 when your child is absent. There is no credit or discount given for absences; including illnesses and vacations. If the child is out due to vacations, please give the day care a one week’s notice and pay half the fee to reserve your child’s place.
 Medications
Prescriptions will be given according to doctor’s instructions. Medications must be labeled with the child’s name, physician’s name, and instructions or be accompanied by a doctor’s note including the same information. Over-the-counter medications must be from the U.S., including the child’s age, weight, and instructions on the packaging label. Over-the-counter medications must be in the original packaging or be accompanied by a doctor’s note including the same information.
 Supplies
The children need to have a complete change of clothes at the center at all times. These must be replaced seasonally. Closed-toes shoes with rubber soles are recommended for your child's safety. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather since the children go outside daily. The children need a toothbrush, hairbrush, and a blanket. Blankets will be sent home on Fridays to be washed and returned on Monday. You will be asked periodically for toothpaste, Kleenex, wipes and disposable diapers. You may bring in toys and jewelry from home at your own discretion. The Eagle's Nest Day Care, employees and Canutillo ISD are not responsible for lost or damaged items.

It is requested that parents of infants bring several changes of clothing for their child.
 Parents provide diapers.
 Parents will supply all bottles.
Parents who are breast-feeding will be allowed to store milk in the classroom refrigerator. There must
be a label with the child's first and last name.
Parents must supply a small think medium sized blanket for nap time. It must be marked with the
child's first and last name to insure that it does not get lost.

Other items may also be prohibited from the center as decided by the day care staff.
Toddlers / Preschoolers Belongings:
Parents are encouraged to dress their child in clothing that is washable and comfortable. When children are hard at work and play, they do get dirty. This is a part of healthy growth development.
It is requested that parents bring several changes of clothing if their child is less than four years of age.
During toilet training time, it is best if the child is dressed in clothing that he/she can manage by him/herself. Parents please bring your child an extra set of clothes: a sweater and appropriate seasonal clothing for active outdoor play (mittens, boots, bathing suit, etc.), and with appropriate shoes for running, climbing and playing flip flops, thong sandals, and open-toes shoes are not allowed.

Parents must supply a small thin medium sized blanket for nap time. It must be marked with the child's first and last name to insure that it does not get lost.
 Arrival and Departures
Arrival and departures are transitional times for children and need to be handled delicately. it is requested that parents bring the child directly into his/her classroom. It is important that the caregiver is aware of all arrivals. Children may not be left unaccompanied into eh parking lot, dropped off at the front entrance, or playground. They are to inform the staff in writing of any special instructions or information that might be needed for that day.
When picking up children, parents are asked to pick them up in their child's classroom. If the child is outside on the playground, parents must let the child's caregiver know he/she is picking him/her up. Children may not be picked up from an outside entrance or over the fence. It is for the safety and security of the children that we have established these policies.
If someone(18 yrs. or older) other than the parent is going to pick up the child, then parents are asked to contact the center in advance. A pick-Up/RElease Form with the parent's signature and and ID are required. In the case of an emergency, parents can contact the center to notify staff that another person will pick up their child. A staff member will record the information on the sign out sheet next to the child's name, form the list of authorized persons allowed to pick up the child.

 Meals
The center will participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program sponsored by the Texas Department of Human Services. The goals of this program are to provide nutritious and appetizing meals and snacks for children, introduce different types of foods, and help teach good eating habits. The center will avoid serving overly sweet items and encourage children to appreciate the natural flavors of a variety of wholesome foods. Seconds will be available for those children who want more. Our monthly menus are posted on the parent bulletin boards.
If a child has a food allergy, a doctor’s note must be brought in and it will be posted in a convenient place in the classroom so that all staff members are aware of it.
The Eagle’s Nest Day Care Center provides all baby food, cereal, juice and formula/milk for infants. Staff prepares baby formula and foods for all infants. Discipline
The childcare staff guides the children by encouraging appropriate behavior. Unacceptable behavior is addressed by redirecting the child’s energy to another activity.
Time out is used for the maximum duration of the child’s age.
Physical punishment, isolation, and humiliation are never used.
 Transportation
The school district provides transportation for teen parents. If you are going to be absent please call and cancel the service at (915) 877-7730 or 877-7731. Arrangements for transportation can be made with Debbie at the day care.
Field Trips / Transportation Plans
Classes working on units are encouraged to take advantage of as many first hand experiences as possible. Notices will be sent home one week prior to the scheduled field trip that state where the field trip is taking place, the goals of the trip, the date, time of departure and expected return time. Each parent will be asked to sign and return a field trip form giving permission for his or her child to participate. This serves several purposes: to make the parent aware of what is taking place at school, to be sure that the child is on time and does not miss the trip, and to give the parent the opportunity to join if possible.
Canutillo ISD provides transportation for field trips in school buses. The following procedures will be adhered to:
Classroom Participation: Generally, the field trips are for the toddlers and preschoolers. Also, all ages of children participate in nature walks taken in the immediate vicinity of the center.
Parent Participation: Parent or student volunteers are required for field trips in order to maintain child/adult ratios. Field trips will be canceled if these ratios cannot be met.
In the event that the parent does not want the child to participate in the field trip, the care of the child will be the responsibility of the parents, not of The Eagle’s Nest Day Care.
 Communication
We believe parents are the most significant adults in a child's life. We strive to create mutual respect between parents and the center staff, a partnership for the benefit of the child. Our doors will be open to parents at all times. Parents visiting the center must sign in on the visitor’s sign-in sheet and wear a visitor’s pass while in the center.
Parent’s attending school in the district are strongly encouraged to attend their classes at all times. It is minimal when teen parents are asked to visit the day care by staff members. However, if a teen parent is needed at the center, a staff member will notify the campus front office to contact the teen parent. A staff member will issue teen parents a pass when they will return to class. The center will not accept unscheduled visitations by teen parents who are in school with out a pass. The center will have an open house and parent teacher conferences to encourage communication and establish a relationship between a child's family life and his/her school.
A newsletter is published quarterly to establish a link between a child's home and school. The purpose of the newsletter is to serve as an open communication network for exchanging ideas, experiences and needs of the center and parents-It highlights children's activities by age group, new starts, graduates, staff news and parent activities. Community news, as it relates to children's programs, is also targeted from time to time.
Parent Conferences:
It is important to the well being of the children that regular communication occurs between the parents and day care personnel. Parent conferences may be requested at any time conferences will be scheduled at the convenience of both the parents and the caregiver. Two parent conferences are scheduled for this school year. Please check the monthly newsletters for dates and times.
Parent Complaints:
Report any question and/or concerns to the Supervisor. If satisfaction is not achieved, you may contact the Completion Coordinator 877-7643. Every effort will be made to resolve problems.
Parent Involvement:
The center is designed to provide high quality childcare and to help employees meet the challenges of balancing work and family. An important and necessary ingredient in creating quality childcare is parent involvement.
Parent / Teacher Communication:
Communication between the parent, child and caregiver is important to ensure a good working relationship. We encourage daily communication between parents and caregivers. Caregivers of infants will send home daily report of the child's activities.
Parent / Teacher Conferences:
It is our responsibility to communicate to the parents regarding their children's progress. Our primary method of communication is the Parent- Teacher Conferences held once each semester. If a child has problem areas, the caregiver will discuss these areas with the parent and her strategy to correct the problem. When parents and caregivers are able to work together to plan for the child's educational progress, the child benefits greatly.
 Celebrations
Birthdays can play an important role in the life a child. Parents are welcome to celebrate their child's birthday at the center. However, they must inform food and favor ideas to the caregivers at least one week in advance. Birthday celebrations should be centered around snack time and of short (1/2 hour) duration. For safety, we ask parents to refrain from using balloons.
