Here are some top bond facts to address the most pressing questions currently posed by Canutillo voters.

Canutillo ISD projections indicate there will be no total tax rate increase for Canutillo taxpayers over the current tax rate if the 2021 bond is passed despite the language on the ballot required by state legislature that states “this is a property tax increase.” Learn more here.

Canutillo ISD does not have the highest tax rate in Region 19. The current Canutillo ISD tax rate of $1.34 is on par with other area districts being neither the highest nor lowest in the region. Learn more here.

The Canutillo ISD bond project list was not developed solely by District officials or the Board of Trustees but by the Just for Kids Committee made up of parents, residents, district employees, business leaders, community leaders, students and other District stakeholders who worked closely with administration to provide guidance and insight on the needs of the Canutillo community. For over three months, the JFK Committee met to review data by third-party experts and sought community input with the goal of developing a proposed bond project list through a transparent, collaborative, and inclusive planning process. The $10 million indicated under Proposition B - refunding of maintenance tax notes on the election ballot, borrowed at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide every student in the District with resources to support remote instruction including Apple devices, universal connectivity, and LED lighting, need to be paid back. Additionally, critical maintenance, repair and renovation projects to include roofing, plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling and bus driveway repairs/replacement are needed for all campuses. Under the direction of current Canutillo ISD administration, the District has earned several notable recognitions for efforts of going above and beyond to show financial responsibility and integrity, ensure financial records are freely accessible to the public and meet a high standard of financial transparency such as receiving a perfect score of 100 - Superior Achievement - for the 2020-21 School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) and being named one of three El Paso school districts, to achieve specific transparency goals through the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program.
