Grand Opening of the Canutillo ISD Community ClosetAfter months of collecting and sorting hundreds of donations from the greater Canutillo community, the Canutillo ISD Community Closet officially opened its doors February 3, 2016. Organized by CISD’s Student Support Services Department, together with the valiant efforts of the Canutillo Parent Club and CISD Parent Liaisons, the CISD Community Closet features a large selection of shoes, clothes and school supplies to assist CISD students and parents in need. The bulk of the donated items came courtesy of CISD’s recent charitable events with Socorro ISD, including the “Shots for Shoes” basketball game in April 2015 and the “Go Gridiron” flag football game last November. Other members of the community donated like-new suits, coats, shoes, and dresses to help CISD parents dress for success when interviewing for job opportunities. The items will be given to CISD students and parents based on referral of the parent liaisons, and donor recipients must live within Canutillo ISD boundaries.

“Some of our families at CISD struggle to make ends meet,” said Dr. Monica Reyes, Director of CISD’s Student Support Services. “Items from the CISD Community Closet will help our students and their parents better succeed both within the classroom and within the regional workforce. We are extremely grateful to all of the generous donors and volunteers who helped make this dream a reality.”
