The event was a celebration of the academic accomplishments of seniors at Canutillo High School and Northwest Early College High School. Students had their names and scholarship awards announced to the crowd,d receive an honorary medal for their achievements and  signed ceremonial letters confirming their intent to attend their college of choice.

“The College signing and scholarship recognition night is important to the school district because it allows the district, community, and parents to celebrate the current and future success of CISD students and to show future Canutillo graduates that they can also earn a college scholarship,” said Frank Clark, Advanced Academics and Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator for CISD. “Additionally, this event demonstrates the districts commitment of preparing students to excel in college, their careers, their community, and in life.”

The ceremony also highlighted the work of school district staff in helping to build a broader awareness of college and the importance of a college degree.

“The CISD counseling team has worked with these students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade talking about the importance of college, how to pay for college, how to apply for scholarships, and how to apply for college. It is the hard work of our counselors that makes a celebration like this possible,” Clark added.
