The Deanna Davenport Elementary School performing music groups competed in the World Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim, California on May 22. The choir and orchestra were awarded gold and silver ratings, respectively. David Moreno, DDE music director, attributes the success of the groups to the community-wide support.
"These students worked all year to prep for this opportunity to perform in California and because of such strong support from the community, they put everything they had into it," Moreno said.
This is the first year a performing group from Davenport Elementary has traveled outside the state to perform. According to principal Marta Strobach, these ratings are a testament to the quality instruction happening at Davenport Elementary.
