The Board also approved a 2% pay raise, an additional 50% contribution to his Texas Teacher Retirement System (TRS) plan and a $1000 monthly annuity to an investment of his choice.

“The District has performed exceptionally well under Dr. Galaviz as the academic and administrative leader in our schools,” Board President Blanca Trout said. “There have been so many reasons to celebrate the accomplishments of our students recently and the amendments to his contract show the community’s appreciation for his dedication to the District.”

Last month, the Texas Education Agency released its first official A–Through–F accountability results and Canutillo ISD became the only traditional school district in the El Paso region to earn an Exemplary Performance A-Rating for the 2018-19 school year. On October 1, Canutillo’s Northwest Early College High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. And, in May, the Board approved a compensation package that gave all employees a salary increase and boosted the starting pay for teachers to $50,000.

Mrs. Trout believes that the District needs to continue its momentum.

“We are making great strides in every area of academics and operations to ensure our students are being adequately prepared to excel in their bright future. This District has worked very hard to make Canutillo the best place to be and we are confident that Dr. Galaviz will continue to take us in the right direction.”
