On Saturday, March 23, 2019, Canutillo ISD suffered a great loss when Bill Childress Elementary Coach Jose Medel unexpectedly passed away. He was a Canutillo graduate, a Father-Son program sponsor, a role model, a hero to many, an active community member and a kind human being. He leaves a legacy, not only at BCE, but in the entire Canutillo community. Coach Medel will be greatly missed and forever remembered and loved.

Medel was posthumously awarded the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year at Childress Elementary. His community expressed their gratitude for his life.
