This 2019 Northwest valedictorian is Aya Abdelgawad. She will attend The University of Texas at Austin and major in computer science. Salutatorian McTzviel Oyerinde also plans to attend The University of Texas at Austin where he will major in aerospace engineering.

It was a bittersweet commencement as the school and District bid farewell to Principal Tracy Speaker-Gerstheimer who is returning to her home in Michigan. Canutillo ISD Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz recognized her during the ceremony.

“It’s not about the principal but it’s the principalship,” Galaviz said. “Ms. Speaker, from the bottom of my heart, you’ve done really, really good. You are an awesome principal. We are going to miss you.”
