August Back to In-person Instruction

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

It seems, at times, that when we are in the midst of a storm in life that it will never end. We are consumed by darkness with little hope of light.  But the tempest does pass and the sun rises, often giving us a renewed appreciation for life.  We have a restored gratitude for what is important. People gain a sense of confidence that they can weather future storms.

Our CISD family has emerged from the pandemic stronger and better. We will be resuming in-person classes August 2. The Texas State Legislature ended its session without approval of House Bill 1468, which would have allowed school districts to offer virtual learning options to students this fall. Students will report to their campuses and will be subject to regular attendance requirements. Click here to view the calendar for the 2021-2022 school year

As we look forward to a return to a new normal, we also acknowledge the need to continue to keep safety and health foremost in mind. The district will closely monitor any new developments in relation to the virus and take necessary measures to protect all of our school community, if needed.

I am excited to share that this week, the Just for Kids committee met for the fourth time at Canutillo Elementary. The committee toured CES and the Lone Star Building. The community members were able to view the needs at CES and the amazing things happening at The Lone Star Building. The Canutillo Northwest Health Clinic, Community Closet, Food Pantry, and the District Alternative Program, to name a few, are all housed at the Lone Star Building. They heard about the Fine Arts department which serves students k-12 grades - about 78% of the student population. Administration also shared the changing needs of the district based on development, enrollment, and safety and security.

The next meeting will be held virtually, on June 23, at 5:00 p.m. You can attend the meeting by visiting the Just for Kids website and clicking on the “June 23” tab. You can also view all the documents that have been presented on this website.

A friendly reminder, that the district is now operating under summer hours. You can reach campuses and administration offices Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. All CISD buildings are closed:

  • Friday, June 18
  • Friday, June 25
  • Friday, July 16
  • Friday, July 23

Please note that the district will be closed June 30 - July 9 for summer break.

All Canutillo ISD campuses will be serving in-person students through the summer session. All other kids 18 and under not attending summer school may pick up curbside meals. Visit the Child Nutrition website for more details: https://bit.ly/3zn5jj5.

Lastly, I want to wish a happy Father’s Day to all dads!
