CISD Forges Ahead in 2021

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

Made stronger by hardship, wiser by challenge and unified by adversity - CISD forges ahead in 2021.

CISD welcomes students, faculty and staff back for the 2021-22 school year. I hope that this message finds you and your family in good health.  Our return marks the beginning of a new era in the district, a new time in this world.  Our homecoming will be joyful, as we rise from the hardship of the pandemic. We will begin the year with confidence and fortitude, as we shed the heavy weight of apprehension and fear. We will embrace teamwork like never before.  Finally, we will return with a new appreciation for life, learning and love - gratitude reaped from being first hand witnesses to the fragility of our existence.

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back in person and can’t wait to see you again! In-person instruction will begin on August 2, 2021.  The Summer Bridge Program for Northwest Early College High School 9th grade students starts on August 2, 2021. The first day of classes for all other NWECHS students is August 9, 2021.

Virtual learning will no longer be an option.  The Texas State Legislature ended its session without approval of House Bill 1468, which would have allowed school districts to offer virtual learning options to students this fall. Students will report to their campuses and will be subject to regular attendance requirements. Click here to view the calendar for the 2021-2022 school year.

Canutillo ISD will no longer require students, employees, or visitors to wear face masks, shields, or other coverings. Anyone who wishes to continue the practice of wearing such items is free to do so.  CISD does highly encourage those who are not fully vaccinated or if you are in a close contact setting to wear a mask.  The district plans to post our reopening plan next week.  Stay tuned!

As we prepare for the upcoming year, we will continue ensuring that all students have equitable access to learning. Canutillo Connect provided a great pandemic response that served to augment the education of our students placing us at the top of the region again.  The reality is that technology in education is here to stay. If we continue to teach our children as we did before the pandemic, we effectively rob them of their future and the skills needed in today's economy.  Therefore, we ask that you take a few minutes to answer our connectivity survey, it can be found in English at www.tinyurl.com/Canutilloconnect and in Spanish at www.tinyurl.com/Canutilloconectado. Please help us help your child be prepared with all the necessary tools.

A huge congratulations to Alderete Middle School student Mariana Tinajero for placing 3rd place in the 2021 National Spanish Spelling Bee Contest. Keep up the outstanding job!

I am proud to share with you that The Just for Kids Committee continues to work on behalf of the Canutillo Community to move towards a bond recommendation to the board.  The committee is looking at multiple existing facility upgrades as well as potential new facilities.  District leadership has presented data to educate the community about demographics, growth, existing needs, budget and a long range vision.  The committee's commitment is to ensure that all students are provided a premier education and are prepared to be competitive in today’s global economy upon graduation.  You can view all the presentations and data that has been shared at meetings here.
