Homecoming

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams.” (Unknown)

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines “homecoming” as: “the return of a group of people usually on a special occasion to a place formerly frequented or regarded as home.” We usually equate this term with returning to our former high school or college once a year. This word also applies to soldiers coming back from deployment. These occasions are naturally joyous and heartfelt.

On July 26, CISD will open its doors to faculty and staff to begin the 2021-2022 school year. This return will not be recognized as a usual return to teaching and learning. It will truly be a homecoming. We will pause to reflect on meeting great challenges over the past year and a half, while joyfully celebrating coming home. I

Yes, home. CISD has prided itself on being a district of families- ones inspired by the common mission of providing quality education to all students. Our faculty and staff families will again occupy classrooms at their home campuses.

You will once again help students realize their dreams, going beyond what is possible on computer screens. You will once more touch children’s hearts, with love that can only be conveyed in physical presence.

We are coming home, CISD faculty and staff, a home “built with love and dreams.”

And we will continue to take every measure to ensure our staff and students are safe. While we cannot require mask wearing or vaccinations, we encourage faculty, staff and students to take necessary steps to ensure their personal wellbeing and the health of others. Please visit our website for information regarding COVID-19 and our safety protocols.

Stay Healthy, Stay Safe, Stay Informed

On that note, we welcome Dr. Maria Fuentes, the new Public Health Emergency Manager (PHEM) who will help us navigate these times with accurate and timely information. If you have any questions for Dr. Fuentes regarding the opening safety protocols for the upcoming school year, please join us at the time that works best for you.
