Northwest Early College High School Announces National Merit Commended Student

A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented to Cabrera in the company of his classmates by NWECHS Principal, Jesica Arellano on Sept. 24. The promising high school senior is one of the approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation who are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

“We are very proud of Andrew. He exemplifies the high potential for success of our students and their academic prowess on a national level,” said Arellano. “This achievement is a testament to the ability of Northwest Early College High School students to compete with top students across the nation and be awarded these notable recognitions.”

Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
