This week, the Board of Trustees voted to create the Canutillo Bond 2024 Citizens Advisory Committee, or CBAC. This decision is a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and community involvement in the implementation of the $387-million bond referendum that was approved by voters on May 4.

The establishment of the CBAC fulfills a promise we made to our voters—to ensure multiple layers of accountability as we proceed with this transformative bond. The committee will consist of parents, business owners, and other key stakeholders from our community, each bringing unique perspectives and expertise. Together, they will oversee and guide the successful execution of the bond projects.

The responsibilities of the CBAC are substantial and vital. Members will be tasked with reviewing documents, assessing contracts, and making recommendations to the Board of Trustees on various aspects related to the bond. This will include everything from initial planning stages to final project completions. By doing so, the CBAC will play a crucial role in ensuring that every dollar is spent wisely and that the projects meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

We are now accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on the CBAC. This is a call to action for all members of our community—especially those who had reservations about supporting the bond during the election. Your participation is invaluable, and we want to engage with you to foster widespread trust and collaboration. The CBAC is designed to be a platform where diverse voices can be heard, concerns can be addressed, and ideas can be exchanged.

The committee will meet at least quarterly with district personnel and contracted officials. During these meetings, members will receive detailed information about construction progress and project updates. These sessions will provide a transparent and thorough overview of each project's status, ensuring that committee members are well-informed and able to provide meaningful input.

I strongly urge you to consider being a part of the CBAC. This is an opportunity to have a direct impact on the future of our district and the quality of education and facilities we provide for our students. Your involvement will help ensure that the bond projects are executed with the highest level of integrity and efficiency.
