I am writing to you to share a critical update on the commendable work being undertaken by our Canutillo Facilities Assessment Task Force. This dedicated group, comprising approximately 60 stakeholders from our vibrant community, embodies a diverse representation of parents, students, employees and taxpayers from every corner of the District. Their mission is both urgent and essential: to confront and devise strategies for two major challenges that our district faces today — the loss of student enrollment and the state of our school infrastructure.

Over the past few weeks, the Task Force has engaged in an intensive process of gathering information, studying data, and touring our facilities. Their commitment and diligence in these endeavors have been nothing short of extraordinary. This work is of paramount importance as it directly relates to the budget deficit plaguing our district. To put this into perspective, our current loss of enrollment translates to an approximate shortfall of $19 million in state funding per year. If these enrollment trends persist, we are looking at an escalation of this figure to $27 million by 2028.

The Task Force is now at a critical juncture, as they shift their focus towards developing strategic solutions to address our district's growth and the deferred maintenance needs at our campuses. In light of the demographic data indicating the construction of 5,000 new homes in Canutillo, it has become increasingly clear that public input is indispensable in shaping the future of our student’s schools.

To facilitate this, we are sending out a mailer containing detailed information and a survey link to the homes of our parents, employees and other residents within the Canutillo community. This survey is a vital tool for the Task Force, as it will significantly aid in forming community-based decisions regarding the future of schools that serve our children. Your participation in this survey is not just appreciated—it is essential. The insights and perspectives you provide will play a crucial role in guiding our actions and policies.

If you are eager to contribute immediately and prefer not to wait for the mailer, all the relevant information and the survey can be accessed online. I strongly encourage you to engage with this process by clicking on this link:

Your voice matters in this critical dialogue. The choices we make today will have a lasting impact on the educational landscape of our district and, most importantly, on the futures of our children. Our students deserve the best facilities and opportunities we can provide, and your involvement is key to ensuring that we meet these needs effectively and responsibly.

In closing, I would like to express my profound gratitude to the members of the Canutillo Facilities Assessment Task Force for their unwavering dedication and hard work. Their commitment to our community's educational future is a shining example of the collaborative spirit that makes Canutillo ISD a remarkable place to learn and grow.

Thank you for your attention, your participation, and your continued support of our efforts to make Canutillo ISD a beacon of excellence in education.
