This is the image for the news article titled Message from Board President Patsy Mendoza - Feb. 10, 2023This week I heard the news that an unprecedented 17 Canutillo High School students had earned the right to compete at the University Interscholastic League State Solo and Ensemble Music Competition. This after the Eagles earned tons of first and second division ratings in the regional competition. I can’t express how proud I am to have such wonderful student musicians represent our District at the highest level.

But what is even more impressive is the fact that our District is seeing results in our continued efforts to focus on the fine arts as one way of improving the lives of students. I am confident that, in partnership with Dr. Galaviz and his administration, the Board of Trustees can continue to support fine arts as a way to guarantee that Canutillo continues its path towards excellence. After all, any District that is determined to be high performing, is bound to have a robust fine arts program.

In just the last couple of months we have seen great progress in the way our students in the fine arts continue to thrive. Last month, the District relaunched Galería Canutillo in the Administration Building to once again showcase the visual art work that our talented students produce. And earlier this semester we received news that one of our student dancers, Canutillo High School’s Alan Herrera, was selected as an All-State Dancer.

Add this to the constant performances that our middle school and high school drama departments stage to great acclaim, and you can see that the talent in Canutillo ISD is plentiful.

As you can see, the talent is there. It is our responsibility and privilege to foster it and make sure students reach their full potential. I am sure I speak for the entire Board of Trustees when I say that we will do everything we can to make that happen.

In other news, this week marked National School Counseling Week. I want to thank all of the wonderful Canutillo ISD counselors who have helped us meet the academic, social and emotional needs of our students. These last couple of years have been the most challenging ones for our students. Thanks to the resources of our counselors, our students have access to tools and strategies to help them.

¡Un abrazo fuerte!
