Message from Board President Patsy Mendoza - Jan. 20, 2023
Dear Canutillo Familia,
This week was a week of celebrations and successes throughout the Canutillo Independent School District. My heart filled with joy and pride each day as I logged into my social media to check on friends and family and I was notified that students and staff throughout CISD were making headlines for all the right reasons. How lucky are we to be part of this community and this school system that is rightfully known as the Best Small School District in Texas?
Our week started off well on Monday with the news that students at Reyes Elementary School and Alderete Middle School swept the District Academic UIL competitions at the elementary, intermediate and middle school levels for Canutillo ISD. What great work by our students and teachers!
Not to be outdone, the Canutillo High School Math Team, which already has shown they have the chops to win the state championship in years past, won first place in Calc Apps at the Jefferson Math Meet. Additionally, our phenom sophomore Matthew Medina placed first in Calc Apps, number sense and math … wow!
We also got word that the Canutillo FFA team made up of three CHS students – Julian Rosales, Ray Dominguez and Daniel Hita – this past weekend qualified to represent our region in the Texas State Tractor Tech Contest. As always, the kids in our agricultural science program do us proud!
You also may have seen the news on KFOX that a teacher and student team from Northwest Early College was the only team from Texas to be selected for the National History Day project that will take place in Hawaii. Student Fatima Garcia and teacher James O’Keefe will study and present on unsung World War II heroes. How exciting!
As you can see, we have a lot to be proud of here in Canutillo. Join me in celebrating the great successes of our students and employees. Well done, everybody!
