This is the image for the news article titled Message from Board President Patsy MendozaDear Canutillo Familia,

Many of us here in our community have been going on a fantastic path down memory lane lately thanks to a new Facebook group that targets those of us who grew up in Canutillo. The “Canutillo Texas History & Memories” Facebook group was started by former Canutillo ISD employee and longtime Canutillo resident Ron Gatlin.

Since it started, the group has grown to have more than 1,600 followers and the activity there is extraordinary. Canutillo folks of all ages – from those of us who attended school back in the old days, to even some kids who are now looking back at their days back in the new high school – continue to post photos, memories and messages.

It’s amazing to reconnect with so many old friends and relive memories that will forever be part of what makes Canutillo great. Every post is filled with comments from people who wish to remain connected to their community and their friends.

What the Canutillo Texas History & Memories group has done is remind us that here in Canutillo we are family. One of our current students said it best this past Tuesday at our school board meeting. In Canutillo, we are more than just an ID number, we are family.

Speaking of this week’s school board meeting, I am happy to report that the Board on Tuesday approved a resolution that officially nominates Dr. Pedro Galaviz for the Superintendent of the Year title. I am proud to have voted in favor of this resolution and wish him good luck as he moves on the process for recognition. I am amazed every day at the level of commitment he shows our students, employees and community. Good luck, Dr. G!

Have a great weekend, Canutillo. I will see you guys on the Facebook group!

¡Un fuerte abrazo!

Patsy Mendoza
