This is the image for the news article titled Message From Board President Patsy Mendoza - May 19Dear Canutillo Familia,

What an amazing week we had in Canutillo ISD! It’s truly a great time to be a member of this community and I am especially proud to be a member of the Canutillo School Board right as we skyrocket to even greater heights.

We started the week with a great ceremony at Canutillo Middle School where incoming sixth graders were shown everything that the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math Academy at the school has to offer. CMS is one of a handful of middle schools in the area to offer this specialized curriculum and these kids are in for an academic treat!

This week we also celebrated our commitment to biliteracy with the Concurso de Deletreo del Distrito, or the CISD Spanish Spelling Bee. The top winners from each grade level include first place winner from kindergarten and first grade, Erik Ang from Reyes Elementary, second place winner Zander Gonzalez from Canutillo Elementary and third place winner from Garcia Elementary Abigail Chavez. They, along with other high-placing students, will represent Canutillo at the next level. ¡Buena suerte!

On Wednesday we celebrated Speech Language Pathologist Day and the amazing team of speech experts we have in Canutillo to help our kids meet their full potential. Thanks for everything you do!

Reyes Elementary had a wonderful event this week to welcome brand new pre-k and kinder students who will attend the campus next year. The signing ceremony helped the students and their families become familiar with Reyes and their future teachers. More importantly, it helped Reyes identify those students who want to be a part of the Canutillo community. Great job, Red Hawks!

Lastly, the Board of Trustees and I had the pleasure of attending the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023 at Northwest Early College High School. The ceremony at the historic Plaza Theater was beautiful and I was proud to be able to certify that the students met all requirements to earn their diplomas.

What a wonderful way to end the week!

I want to invite the public to attend our next regular board meeting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23. We will discuss important issues impacting the District.

¡Un abrazo fuerte!
