This is the image for the news article titled Message from Board President Patsy Mendoza - April 14Dear Canutillo Familia,

What an eventful week we just had in the Best Small School District in Texas! Canutillo is on a roll and I am proud to be a member of this amazing community. Join me in congratulating and celebrating the amazing accomplishments of our students and staff.

Kudos goes out to the student councils of both Canutillo High School and Northwest Early College High School. Both groups this week got notice from the National Student Council organization that their groups received the 2023 National Gold Council of Excellence designation for the outstanding service they have provided to their campuses. What an honor for our student leaders. Additionally, the CHS StuCo earned the 2023 TASC_StuCo Sweepstakes Council designation for the 7th consecutive year! Congrats, Eagles!

Our winning streak continued with our young student performers at both CHS and Canutillo Middle School. The CMS Honor Choir earned a First Division rating for their performance at the Concert Performance Non-Varsity at UIL competition. The CHS Chamber Choir for their part made history. During the Concert & Sight Reading Varsity Competition, the group earned a Sweepstakes Award for the very first time. Wow!

Our Career & Technical Education staff was joined by members of Canutillo High School on Friday at surprising students from Alderete Middle and Canutillo Middle who have been accepted to the inaugural class of the Criminal Justice P-TECH Program at Canutillo High. Dr. Galaviz tells me it was great to surprise the students with the good news and to inform them that they will receive up to $25,000 worth of college and certification instruction toward an associate’s degree in criminal justice. Congratulations to all the new P-TECH students!

Speaking of criminal justice and safety, I want to honor the two women who serve as dispatch operators for the Canutillo ISD Police Department. This week was Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Texas and we are lucky to have amazing dispatchers to help us stay safe and secure. Congratulations and thank you, Ms. Leah and Ms. Nancy for all you do!

Lastly, I want to invite everyone in Canutillo to join the CISD Student Support Services Department for the 2023 Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, April 22 at Canutillo High School. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature free health screenings, exercise classes, fitness assessments, health classes and much, much more. Come take advantage of this opportunity to stay healthy.

As you can see, we have tons going on in Canutillo. Come be a part of the Best Small School District in Texas!

¡Un abrazo fuerte!
