Medical Assistant Program of Study

Principles of Health Science (2 Semesters) (9-10)
Designed to provide an overview of the therapeutic, diagnostic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems of the health care industry. Program Eligibility for 2020-2021 school year will be based on student's 8th grade science grade & 8th grade math or Algebra I grade (must be 85+ in both)

Medical Terminology (2 Semesters) (9-12)
Designed to introduce students to the structure of medical terms, including prefixes, suffixes, word roots, singular and plural forms, and medical abbreviations. The course allows students to achieve comprehension of medical vocabulary appropriate to medical procedures, human anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology. (Prerequisite: pass all EOC exams, Biology with 85+ and pass Principles of Health Science with an 85+)

Health Science Theory (2 Semesters) (10-12)
Designed to provide for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will employ hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development. (Prerequisite: Biology and Chemistry with 85+ and pass Medical Terminology with an 85+) 

*Practicum of Health Science – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (2 Semesters) (11-12)
Designed to give students practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience. Concentration in the Medical Assistant area.
 (Prerequisite: pass Biology and Chemistry with 85+ and pass Health Science Theory with an 85+)
