Health Authority Orders for School Reopening

This is the image for the news article titled Health Authority Orders for School ReopeningDear Canutillo Community,

Today, the local health authority for El Paso County issued an order that all independent school districts shall not reopen schools for on-campus, face-to-face instruction until after September 7, 2020. This order is consistent with our own Canutillo plan.

Last week, the district announced the plan to deliver 100% remote learning instruction beginning August 3 until Labor Day. The new local order does not change our schedule of reopening. The only event that has been canceled, however, is the small groups of students who would have come to school in the first week to meet their teacher, practice social distancing and review the safety protocols.

Based on current infection numbers in our community, we believe that this schedule is in our best interest. Our plans to reopen include an option for 100% remote learning or 100% face to face. These plans were developed with the health and safety of our students, families, employees, and community as the first consideration. Other considerations came from survey information, a special task force, and an advisory committee that included parents, faculty and staff.

As always, this plan is subject to change depending on future guidance from the local health authority and the Texas Education Agency. We will continue to keep you informed as details become available. For updates and details of CISD’s reopening plan, visit http://www.canutillo-isd.org/2020-2021_school_year.

Thank you for your patience, trust and support.
