Canutillo ISD delays school start date for students

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo Community,

As mentioned in previous updates, we have been flexible in terms of our planning for a return to school. As Dr. Anthony Fauci stated - we don’t determine the timeline, the virus does. In the greater El Paso region, COVID-19 is determining the schedule. With a substantial increase in rates of infection in this area, we are changing the date for the first day of school.

Remote learning will commence on August 17 instead of August 3. The first three weeks will consist of 100% remote learning. Starting September 8, parents may choose between on-campus instructional settings and remote instruction. Detailed information regarding campus schedules is available at http://www.canutillo-isd.org/2020-2021_school_year.

This change is prompted first and foremost by safety concerns. The well-being of our students, parents and staff will always be the driving determinant of decisions and actions. Our decisions will continue to be based on local, state and federal education and health authority guidance.

Parents should still proceed with registration and choosing an instructional option as soon as possible in order to facilitate planning for campuses.
