Welcoming Students Back

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo Community,

We welcome back students remotely on Monday, August 17, 2020 and are excited to begin another school year in Canutillo ISD. This decision was made with the safety of our entire school community in mind.

As we re-imagine learning, we aim to return with the delivery of the highest quality instructional programs as a major priority. To this end, teachers have received professional development to better equip them with leading edge methods and strategies. The faculty stands ready to offer engaging learning opportunities, whether remotely or at school.

In regard to rigorous remote learning, we guarantee to provide the following:

  • Devices and connectivity so that every child can participate in distance learning.
  • Daily live interaction for every child with teachers and other students.
  • Class assignments that are challenging and equivalent to in-person instruction.
  • Targeted supports and interventions for English learners and special education students.

Google Classroom will continue to be the primary platform in which instruction and connection with students will be made; therefore, all teachers will continue to be offered multiple, ongoing trainings. Additional professional development will continue to be provided throughout the year.

If you have any questions regarding remote learning, please reach out to your teacher or school. Please remember to access the Parent Tool Kit which contains valuable information about remote learning to help families.

As you know, in order to meet our families’ technological needs, we have launched Canutillo Connect, a comprehensive long term internet solution that will provide universal WiFi to our entire community. We are ensuring that our students' education is not being impeded by this digital divide experienced worldwide during the pandemic. Canutillo Connect is also providing a personal device to each student in the district. Please be patient with us as we anxiously await their arrival to us and distribute them to you!

If you have not yet registered for school, visit our website to complete your registration online. If you need help logging in or to update your contact information, contact your campus registrar. Only registered students will receive a learning device.

The Curbside Meal Program is also only available to registered CISD students. Visit our website for the curbside schedule, bus routes and menu.

When our students return to in person instruction, they will be returning to school with a number of safety measures in place, namely staggered schedules, multiple entrance and exit points, hand cleaning stations, the wearing of face masks and daily temperature checks. We will also be closely monitoring any COVID-19 infections among students and staff and will promptly deploy quarantine procedures as needed. Please fill out the Parent Commitment Form if you have not done so already. This information is vital for planning.

As in many things in life, our success depends on constant vigilance, discipline, and perseverance. We ask all students and staff to strictly adhere to all protocols, as described above, in the best health interests of all. The virus is not predicted to disappear anytime soon, so we must be prepared to comply for the long haul. Families and faculties are strongly encouraged to have serious conversations about the importance of steadfast adherence to all safety rules.

As I told you early on in the pandemic, we are all in this together and we will emerge from it together. This challenge will truly take a team effort and there is no team that I’d rather take the field with than the CISD team.
