Schools will transition to in-person instruction beginning Sept. 14

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo Community,

As we reimagine learning, the time to enter the next phase of instruction is nearing! We are planning to open our school doors on Monday, September 14 and safely transition our kids back gradually to in-person learning.

The El Paso Department of Public Health has issued a letter stating that the data shows a continuous downward trend in key metrics indicating that the spread of COVID-19 in our community has slowed down. It is now to a level that can be considered as an indicator for return of in-person instruction on campus, in a safe and cautious manner. The El Paso area has met 3 guiding metrics that led to the decision to reopen in-person instruction.

✓  7-day Rolling Average Cases Per Capita: Less than 25 cases per 100,000

Testing Positivity Rate by CDC Week: Less than 7.5%

14-day Steady Decline in the 7-day rolling average of positive cases

Parents, you were asked to sign a commitment form declaring the method of instruction of your choice for your child, remote or in-person. This is a commitment for a 9-week grading period. If you'd like to change your child's instruction choice for the next grading period, new commitment forms will be available September 21. Families who have not yet selected an option, will be defaulted to the remote option. This is to ensure safe, small numbers of students in the classroom.

Canutillo High School

Canutillo High School received a waiver for a hybrid schedule for the 2020-2021 school year. For safety purposes, this was done in order to limit the number of students on the campus at one time. The school will run an A/B week schedule with certain grade levels attending on different days.

Hybrid Week A beginning September 14

  • Monday and Tuesday, 9th grade
  • Wednesday and Thursday, 10th grade
  • Friday, 12th grade

Hybrid Week B beginning September 21

NW Reopening

Thanks to all our parents for taking the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and additional illness. We need to remain vigilant and keep each other safe. Continue to practice the 3 W’s – Wear a mask, Wash your hands, and Watch your distance – both at home and at school.
3 w's of health3w's of health

We appreciate your constant guidance of students as they learned to navigate often unfamiliar virtual learning platforms. Thank you for your continued patience and support of school district leaders as we endeavored to innovate and accommodate in the midst of a pervasive health crisis.

It is often said that our parents are our first teachers. However, for the past six months, you have proven that you are in fact their most important teachers. By your words, deeds, and example during these challenging times, you have instilled vital lessons that will serve your children well for the rest of their lives.

We will continue to communicate important information in preparation for opening our doors for in-person instruction. Thank you for remaining flexible as we continue to navigate through this pandemic. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school, and someone will happily see that your needs are met.
