Love in Education

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

Congratulations to our Canutillo High School girls basketball team who defeated Burges High School 66-65 in overtime on Feb. 11, 2021 leading Canutillo to the 5A girls bidistrict win! Led by coach and teacher of the year Antonio Lopez Waste, the Eagles will face Amarillo High next week Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 6:30 PM @ Seminole High School Gym, 2100 NW Avenue D. The cost of tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

As we celebrate the season of love this weekend, let’s remember how to demonstrate true love in our daily lives and jobs.

In the midst of these difficult times, let us not lose sight of the power of empathy, caring, and patience in education - the things of love. Some studies have indicated that these softer attributes stand above all else, including hard skills, as the keys to reaching the hearts and minds of our students. So, let us celebrate Valentine’s Day, with a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the importance of love in education.

And, part of the love equation is caring for your fellow citizens. During the continuing course of this health crisis, we must not become complacent or indifferent. We must remain steadfast in our adherence to safety measures in order to protect all individuals within our school community from the virus, including the 3W’s – wash your hands, watch your distance, wear your mask.

Use the self-screening tool every day if you are attending school or work in-person.

  • Student Screening Tool
  • Staff Screening Tool
  • Stay home if you feel sick.
  • If you have had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or you have a sick family member at home, do not come to school/work. Call your school to talk about the situation.

This week, our Child Nutrition Department launched a new mobile app called SchoolCafe designed to keep you informed about school menus and nutritional information. This will promote healthy eating habits and encourage students to try new foods. To download the SchoolCafe app and get more information, visit https://bit.ly/2OpKtfL.

Finally, there is a chance of winter weather early next week. Please stay safe at home if road conditions deteriorate. Follow our district website and social media for any school delays or closures if necessary.
