Fruits of Spring

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

Our country has endured another string of mass shootings. Every time El Pasoans hear of these devastating events, it revives painful memories of our own tragedy - the Walmart shooting on August 3, 2019. It is our hope that our government officials can enact sensible policies to help prevent these deplorable incidents.

Life has its cycles and seasons. Our community has emerged from the darkness even stronger and more united in our common pursuit of a lasting peace. We are beholding the beautiful fruits of spring. As the leaves turn green and the sun provides greater warmth, we celebrate hope in the midst of hopelessness. More and more of our citizens have been vaccinated, providing protection against this virus.

Let us count our blessings as we move forward in noble service of our students.

Congratulations to Canutillo High School coach Anthony Lopez-Waste for being named the 2021 All-City Girls Basketball Coach of the Year by the El Paso Times. And, congratulations to CHS girls soccer who are bi-district champs after defeating Chapin yesterday! Good luck in the area round!

This is a reminder that the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program is still required by law to be offered by school systems. End-of-course exams will continue to be offered at our high schools. We strongly encourage all students, including remote learners, to attend their test sessions and work towards completing their graduation requirements. All campuses will continue to follow COVID-19 safety procedures and regulations. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal if you have any further questions related to state assessments and graduation.

Don’t forget that schools and district offices will be closed next Friday, April 2, for the spring holiday. Have a great weekend!

Dr. Pedro Galaviz
Superintendent of Schools
