CISD is committed to providing COVID-19 updated information and the current status of active cases. We continuously revise the current public health guidelines and recommendations provided by the local, state and national health authorities including Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Texas Education Agency (TEA), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), El Paso Department of Public Health (DPH) and Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to accommodate our protocols as needed to ensure the safety and overall wellbeing of all our students and staff.

COVID-19 Positive Cases on CISD Community

On CISD schools, there were a total of 8 positive laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases on staff or students reported during the week of September 13 to September 19, 2021 (Table 1). All 8 COVID-19 cases were identified in students.

*Cases included in this report are those that have been confirmed and provided a copy of a COVID-19 positive laboratory report AND a report has been submitted to the El Paso Department of Public Health. Cases that are currently under investigation or have not provided a copy of a positive test result are not included but isolation/quarantine protocols have been initiated by our CISD team.

As of September 19, out of the 67 positive COVID-19 cases (N=67) reported since July 19th among our CISD staff and student population (Fig. 1), a total of 50 cases (74.6%) were identified among unvaccinated individuals, 14 were among vaccinated individuals (20.9%) and 3 individuals were partially vaccinated pending for a second dose (4.5%). Out of the 67 COVID-19 cases, 57 cases have been identified as students (85.1%) and 10 as employees (14.9%). The most common COVID-19 symptoms reported by symptomatic students have been cough (23.9%), fever (23.9%), sore throat (21.7%) and body aches (15.2%).

City of El Paso Epidemiological Update: Current Cases & Stage Level for Week September 13 – September 19, 2021.

According to the statistical report of the City of El Paso, as of September 20, 2021, there are currently a total of 20 active cases reported on the areas of Canutillo and Vinton. Our community is now located under Stage 4 on the COVID-19 Community Scorecard with a (7-day average) positivity rate of 4.99% (City of El Paso, 2021). Further information at

Vaccination Rates in El Paso, Texas

Vaccination rates continue to increase. A total of 516,542 persons have been fully vaccinated in El Paso, TX. The percentage of population >12 fully vaccinated is 75.2%. Immunization events at CISD

Canutillo ISD has been hosting a series of vaccination clinics where the University Medical Center Mobile Unit has been on campus offering free COVID-19 vaccines to students, staff and family members. A total of 160 individuals have successfully received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 64 individuals have received their second dose in our four prior events. COVID-19 Breakthrough Cases in El Paso, Texas

As of September 20, there are currently 2,114 breakthrough cases reported in El Paso, TX.   https://www.epstrong.org/

Beginning September 20, 2021, Canutillo ISD will offer COVID-19 Rapid Testing to all students and staff who are present on campus during the instructional day and participate in approved extracurricular activities. Our main goal is to ensure we provide a safe environment for all our CISD school community.
