Your Voice, Your Vote

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

I hope you are all enjoying your time off during intersession. This week as students enjoyed the start of their break teachers and staff got down to the nitty-gritty at our Growth, Resilience, Innovation and Tenacity (GRIT) professional development workshops. Our teams got an opportunity to expand upon their approaches to teaching and learning and continue building their knowledge and skills that keep them at the top of their profession.

The GRIT workshops culminated with a general session at CHS where our staff, administrators and teachers heard about the state of our district and all the great work they have contributed to throughout the past couple years and what we can look forward to ahead.

It is because of our premiere staff and teachers that we are the premiere District. With that said, I want to thank our wonderful teachers in the District in honor of World Teacher’s Day which was Oct. 5. They go above and beyond in their efforts to educate tomorrow’s best today.

Thank you to our District Human Resources team in honor of Texas Education Human Resources Day on Oct. 13. Our Human Resources staff work hard each day to make sure we have top-notch employees and a positive work environment to foster the best work output and the best education for our students.

We continue to honor and thank our principals all month long in honor of National Principals Month. We are grateful for their leadership and letting the best interest of their campus, staff and students guide their decisions.

2021 Bond Update

Early voting is almost here! Your right to vote and have a voice in a democratic society is a freedom not enjoyed by everyone. Many people from countries all around the world don’t have this right and even in America, the right to vote was a freedom long fought for. As a veteran myself, I value our country, our freedom and our right to exercise our vote. Your vote makes a difference.

We are continuing our efforts to dispel rumors and misinformation on the bond amongst our community and provide accurate information so you feel confident with your vote either for or against the bond on election day.

This bond encompasses many aspects of progress and growth for our District, schools, community and students. It is crucial that you, our parents, guardians and community members engage with us and let us know what you're thinking, what questions you have and hear the facts directly from us. We are in this together!

Get out there and vote. For the bond, against the bond, just know your voice, your vote matters.

Early voting starts on Oct. 18 through Oct. 29 at our Central Office Facility at 7965 Artcraft at the following times:

  • Oct. 18 - 22: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Oct. 23 - 24: 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Oct. 25 - 29: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
COVID-19 and Vaccination

We remain steadfast in our commitment to keep our students, staff and teachers safe. A total of 165 individuals have successfully received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 113 individuals have received their second dose at our prior mobile vaccine clinics. Also, a total of 45 individuals received their flu vaccine.

The next mobile immunization event will be held at Canutillo High School on October 20 where COVID-19 boosters and the Influenza vaccine AFLURIA will be available for all those 12 years and up.

Regarding the latest temporary lift to the local mask mandate, we will follow the advice of County Judge Samaniego and hold steady while continuing to protect the health and welfare of our students and teachers by encouraging and promoting vaccination and safe practices in our schools. We are not interested in politicizing our classrooms and disrupting instruction but rather focus on protecting our students and teachers.

Intersession

Intersession is underway through Oct.15 apart from Northwest Early College High School which remains on their regular schedule. Our District buildings and campuses will be closed from Oct. 11 through Oct. 15. Again, Northwest Early College High School will remain on regular schedule.

Stay safe, stay healthy and exercise your right to vote!
