Above & Beyond

Dear Canutillo community,

There are some awesome things happening across our district. Our staff and students are shining examples of why we are the premier district.

Northwest CrestFirst, I want to congratulate Northwest Early College High School junior, Christian Dees for winning 2nd place in the 2021 Congressional App Challenge for the app he created called Fitness Planner. The office of Congresswoman Veronica Escobar received over a dozen submissions from across four middle and high schools within Texas’ 16th Congressional District. Keep up the good work, Christian!

Northwest Early College High School also received the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles and expanding girls’ access in AP computer science courses. Congratulations faculty and staff at NWECHS!

CISD Small logoI also want to congratulate our district Financial Services Department team for receiving the Texas Association of School Business Officials Award of Excellence in Financial Management. This team of individuals work diligently to ensure our district is implementing professional standards, best practices, and innovations in financial reporting and exemplify meaningful transparency and responsible accounting practices. Thank you all for your contributions to making sure we uphold the highest financial standards.

COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing
It is important that we work together as a team to help keep our campuses and community healthy. We highly encourage our staff, students, teachers and parents to follow all the preventive measures so we can be part of the solution. If you feel sick or are experiencing any COVID-19 like symptoms, please stay home. We will continue to offer free rapid testing to staff and students to quickly identify positive cases of COVID-19 to reduce the risk of spreading it to others.

Hours for the COVID-19 antigen (rapid) and molecular (PCR) testing being offered at the Lone Star Building Rec Center have changed and will be offered Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. This is a free service provided by Q Med and ChemGiant for all district staff, teachers, students and their family members. An insurance card or social security card is needed and services are not provided by Canutillo ISD staff. Vaccines will also be available for ages 5 and up including Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

Vaccination clinics are still being offered at various campuses. To view upcoming clinic dates and locations, visit http://www.canutillo-isd.org/COVID19/vaccination_clinics.

Canutillo ISD Sponsored American Red Cross Blood Drive
Canutillo ISD will be sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, March 1, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at our Central Office. We encourage everyone to come out and donate if you are able to do so to help save lives. The sponsor code is: ELPASOCANUTILLO. Here is the donor registration link directly to the Canutillo ISD Blood Drive: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=ELPASOCANUTILLO

Stay safe and healthy and practice the 3W’s: watch your distance, wear your mask, wash your hands.

Sincerely,
Pedro Galaviz
Superintendent of Schools
