Surpassing Expectations

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

I am very proud of our Canutillo ISD family for always setting the bar high.

At last night's board meeting, we shared the results of our 2020-2021Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR). This report showed that despite a global pandemic that brought many challenges, our students’ academic performance remained strong. Our district is leading the region in all core subjects and is surpassing Region 19 and the State at all levels in Algebra I. We also continue to lead the region in Biology, English I, English II and U.S. History.

These results don’t happen by chance but are the fruits of hard work and dedication from each and every one of us who are part of this premier district. Our parents and guardians make sure their children attend class every day. Our teachers and staff come to work with the intent of ensuring our students are getting what they need to not only pass their classes but surpass expectations.

I want to say farewell to Mr. Jesus Barba, our principal at Jose Damian Elementary. Thank you for your service to our district and the leadership you provided to JDE parents, staff and students daily. You will be missed by your Canutillo family but we wish you the best in your new endeavor and much success.

District Accolades
Congratulations to Catherine Tabor, Northwest Early College High School advanced placement Physics and Computer Science teacher who was invited to take part in the “Quantum Workforce: Q-12 Actions for Community Growth” meeting, an initiative of the National Q-12 Education Partnership co-hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s National Quantum Coordination Office and the National Science Foundation. Her participation in this important initiative provides new opportunities for our students to learn new skills that can lead to lucrative careers advancing quantum information science and technology. If your child is interested in joining NWECHS, remember the last day to apply is Monday, Jan. 31.

COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing
We will continue to offer free rapid testing to staff, students and family members to quickly identify positive cases of COVID-19 to reduce exposure and spread at our campuses.

COVID-19 antigen (rapid) and molecular (PCR) testing is offered at the Lone Star Building Rec Center Mondays thru Thursdays from 8:30 am - 11:30 am. It will be a free service available to staff, students and family members. Please bring a copy of your insurance card or a Social Security Number if they do not have insurance information. This is a free service provided by Q Med and ChemGiant for all district staff, teachers, students and their family members. An insurance card or social security card is needed and services are not provided by Canutillo ISD staff.

Vaccination clinics are still being offered at various campuses. To view upcoming clinic dates and locations, visit http://www.canutillo-isd.org/COVID19/vaccination_clinics.

Canutillo ISD Sponsored American Red Cross Blood Drive
Canutillo ISD will be sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, March 1, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at our Central Office.
