Staying Cool

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter. We have definitely felt some blustery winter temps this past couple of days and even got to enjoy some snow. We appreciate the flexibility of our parents, students and staff to ensure we all stayed safe during these freezing temperatures.

We are very proud of our Reyes Elementary School Chamber Choir. This group of high-performing fourth & fifth graders, under the direction of Rocio Rodriguez, has been invited to perform for the 2022 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention held in San Antonio, Feb. 9-12, the largest music educators convention in the nation. Ensembles invited by TMEA demonstrate the highest level of achievement in music education.

Congratulations and best of luck on your upcoming performance!

We are happy to announce that Bill Childress Elementary School has been selected as the Winner for the 2022 Best of Vinton Awards in the category of Elementary School. Way to go, Golden Eagles!

Black History Month
February is dedicated to Black History Month. This is an exciting learning opportunity for our students throughout our campuses to appreciate the triumphs and struggles of African Americans both past and present and appreciate the immense strides they made throughout history to shape the nation we live in today.

COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing
We will continue to offer free rapid testing and vaccination opportunities to staff, students and family members.

COVID-19 antigen (rapid) and molecular (PCR) testing is offered at the Lone Star Building Rec Center Mondays thru Thursdays from 8:30 am - 11:30 am. This is a free service available to staff, students and family members. Please bring a copy of your insurance card or a Social Security Number if they do not have insurance information. This is a service provided by the outside entities Q Med and ChemGiant for our Canutillo ISD community and their families.

Vaccination clinics are still being offered at various campuses. To view upcoming clinic dates and locations, visit http://www.canutillo-isd.org/COVID19/vaccination_clinics.

Canutillo ISD Sponsored American Red Cross Blood Drive
Canutillo ISD will be sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, March 1, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at our Central Office. We encourage everyone to come out and donate to alleviate the national blood shortage and help save lives. The sponsor code is: ELPASOCANUTILLO. Here is the donor registration link directly to the Canutillo ISD drive: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=ELPASOCANUTILLO

Stay warm, safe and healthy!
Sincerely,

Pedro Galaviz
