Growing Stronger Together

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

“Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient.” — Steve Maraboli

As the district’s selection of the elementary and secondary teachers of the year approaches, we are again mindful of the importance of our CISD faculty members. Research has consistently informed us that teacher effectiveness is the most important factor in terms of student success. And our appreciation for these invaluable professionals has only grown since the pandemic.

Now that we are settling back to a more normal routine, we gain a deeper perspective on the challenging road just traveled. Looking back, we are amazed by how quickly our teachers mobilized to effectively deploy online teaching and learning platforms to best serve their students. And rather than complain about having to make substantial changes at a moment’s notice, teachers and staff employed frequent online meetings to plan and strategize.

Bottom line - CISD teachers rolled up their sleeves and kept their eyes on the ball, regardless of the stresses and distractions inherent to the health crisis. For that, and so much more, we offer a sincere thank you to all of our faculties.

The pandemic has also reminded us that teaching involves so much more than intellectual skills. It requires fortitude, empathy, perseverance, resolve, grit, patience and love - all attributes brightly displayed during the health crisis. And these are the same attributes that continue to make CISD a premier school district.

Week of the Young Child
April 2 - 8 marks the Week of the Young Child, an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to focus attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. At our District, it is our responsibility to ensure every child experiences the type of early environment that promotes their early learning. We will celebrate each day this week with tactivites tied to the daily theme, “Music Monday;” “Tasty Tuesday;” “Work Together Wednesday;” “Artsy Thursday;” and “Family Friday.”

Autism
We Kicked off National Autism Awareness Month by providing the community with information, support and resources to increase inclusion of students with various learning abilities at the Understanding Life From a Different Angle Autism Conference coordinated by Student Support Services. Over 100 community members, agencies, educators and parents attended the event. It is important for us to understand the various learning abilities of all our students and how we can best provide the resources, support and opportunities that help them grow personally and academically.
