Ready, set, test! The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing period is upon us and there are a few important things for students and parents to note as students embark one the first testing cycles since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last 2020-21 school year, STARR and End of Course (EOC) exams were optional for students across the state of Texas. Students in the Canutillo Independent School District who chose to test, outpaced region averages by scoring above or at the Texas average on the majority of STARR and EOC exams.
State released scores for 2021 ranked Canutillo ISD students above their regional peers in grades 5 math, 8 math, and Algebra I with 5th grade Spanish testers and Algebra I testers above state average.
We are ready to outshine already tremendous performances in 2022 with all our eligible Canutillo ISD students ready to test.
Here is what you need to know:
- This year, testing is mandatory
- STAAR exams determine how well students are grasping grade level curriculum.
-
EOC exams are required for graduation.
- Canutillo ISD is aiming for 100% student participation this year.
-
Students and parents can access practice assessments to become familiar with the format and content of tests through the Texas Education Agency’s website: Practice and Released Tests (texasassessment.gov).
-
Students get a good night’s sleep, have a nutritious breakfast and bring a positive attitude the day of testing.
