Dear Canutillo community,
As a district, our focus over the past few months has been how we plan to address our most pressing needs. Deferred maintenance, the overcrowding at Reyes and the need to relocate Central Office remain top priorities and our responsibility to address.
We have had discussions, asked you the community for your input and the option that seems to be our best chance of quick resolution would be going out for a bond election in November. We realize that this option offers no guarantee we will pass this bond a second time around but we owe it to our district community to try.
It was much to our dismay when TxDOT informed us we must relocate our Central Office facility. This was not a decision we made or planned for but now is a reality that we must face. We recently went over our funding options for this move and the benefits and considerations of each possible scenario. Not one option is a perfect situation, there are pros and cons to all avenues. The most impactful solution with the least ramifications would be the successful passing of a bond to address this and the other pending critical needs. Without a bond, we just can’t fund everything our district needs.
Without the support of a bond, your support as a community, we are left to make some very difficult decisions that will touch everyone within the district in some way. We are being fully transparent when we say that some of the possibilities include district-wide budget cuts, reduction in our district workforce, no ability to offer raises to our amazing staff and the closing or consolidation of campuses. We need to let all our constituents know the best and worst case scenarios since we all will be touched by the outcome of not having the support to fund these major undertakings.
I hope all of us take some time to reflect on the impact we can make in supporting our district and how we all have a role and place here at Canutillo ISD. We cannot do what we do without doing it together.

Canutillo Historical Mural Unveiling
I encourage all to attend the unveiling of the new mural painted by female artists within Canutillo ISD. The mural will be unveiled during a ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1 at the Outlet Shoppes at El Paso.
The mural “Women in Art: Inspiring Young Women into the Field of Art'' located between Old Navy and Puma, aims to inspire every generation to accelerate action and progress towards gender equality while showcasing the long storied history of the Canutillo area. This endeavor was a labor of love for the all female crew of secondary teachers and students led by Alderete Middle School art teacher, Estella Ramos and strongly supported by AMS Principal Nidia Avila.
The unveiling ceremony will include special performances by the AMS band, cheerleaders and Canutillo High School mariachi band.
Health Fair
Make plans to join us at the Canutillo ISD Health Fair, Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Canutillo High School located at 6675 South Desert Blvd. There will be health screenings, informational booths, food trucks, prizes, live music, activities for the kids and monster trucks.
CAFÉ Scholarship
Today is the last day to apply! All Canutillo High School and Northwest Early College High School seniors don’t miss your chance to apply for available scholarships through the Canutillo Alumni Foundation for Education (CAFÉ). There are opportunities for every graduating senior. There are scholarships available for academic performance, volunteerism, for those with grade point averages of 2.0 and up. Apply here.
Registration
Online registration is open! Don’t forget to enroll your child for the 2022-23 school year. We hope to see all our bright faces back and if you are new to our district, we welcome you. Looking forward to another year of fun and learning.
STAAR Testing
Remember that STAAR is required and does count this year. Make sure our kids get some good sleep, a nutritious breakfast and bring their A game!

Graduation
The graduation dates have been set! Northwest Early College is scheduled May 18 @ 2:00 p.m., at Don Haskins Center. Canutillo High School’s ceremony will take place May 31 @ 2:00 p.m. at the Don Haskins Center.
