Growth in Canutillo

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

The United States has reached an unfortunate milestone in the pandemic- one million deaths. Every person has been impacted by the health crisis. Many of us have had the virus, know people who became seriously ill or individuals who have passed. As we reflect on the past two years, we need space and time to grieve our losses. However, there is light. We have gained a capacity to better understand the fragility of life, which gives us a fuller appreciation for its blessings.

The pandemic has also taught us that we must adapt to life’s circumstances. Yet another development in our district requiring a change of course is notification by TXDOT that Central Office will likely be relocated as a result of the Artcraft Road Project.

The project proposes operational improvements to include four direct connectors at the interchange of I-10 and SH 178. Proposed improvements also include access control measures, reconstruction, and extending frontage roads in both directions. Grade separated interchanges are planned with four elevated lanes over Upper Valley Road and Westside Drive, as well as entrance and exit ramps to SH 178.

Without a doubt our community is growing rapidly, and we look forward to working with TX-DOt to improve our overall traffic flow in the area.  We want to make it easier and safer for our children to get to school.

As we look towards different relocation options, to include building a new Central Office or repurposing an existing building, we will be reaching out to the Canutillo community for input. Our goal is to locate a site which is safe and readily accessible and desirable for all of our public.
