The Best Start in the Best Small School District in Texas

Message from the Superintendent Dear Canutillo Community,

The start of the 2022-23 school year is fast approaching and I know you share in the excitement with me. This week, we took one step closer to that Aug. 1 start date by welcoming our teachers and other instructional personnel. You may have noticed a whole lot of activity at our campuses as our teachers began to prepare their classrooms for what is sure to be a great first day.

But before heading to their respective schools, all teachers convened at Reyes Elementary School on Wednesday to reconnect with one another, say hello to old friends and celebrate the fact that their hard work has made Canutillo ISD the Best Small District in Texas. They also heard an important message from nationally recognized motivational speaker Chris “Shoof” Sheufele, who imparted to them the importance of the role they play in preventing bullying among our students.

I spent the rest of the day on Wednesday visiting schools and sitting in on some of the great training and conversations our principals prepared for our teachers. It is evident from the tone of our talks that our teachers are ready to take on the challenges of the upcoming school year head on.

In other action, the Canutillo ISD Safety and Security Committee met for the first time this week to receive an update on the work the District has done to update its emergency response and the safety of our schools and facilities. The committee, which is made up of school trustees, employees, parents, law enforcement agents and other stakeholders, heard presentations from the CISD Safety and Security Department, including updates on the threat assessment training, a targeted safety audit and the staff development that will be imparted to all employees as we kick off the school year.

The committee will continue to meet throughout the year to assess the protocols and practices the District has developed to keep our children and staff safe. I make a commitment to keep you updated on these developments, as I understand that the safety of our kids remains your top priority.

I hope you enjoy these last couple of days of summer break. We can’t wait to have the Best Start in the Best Small School District in Texas.
