Welcome Back CISD Family

Message from the Superintendent Dear Canutillo Community,

Ready. Set. School!

The wait is over and it is now time to welcome our kids back to classes for the 2022-23 school year. It is an exciting time for the Canutillo Independent School District and our students as we set out to continue the work our teachers and staff have done to get us to the place we are at: The Best Small School District in Texas. Obviously, we are looking forward to welcoming our kids back to school and to help them meet their academic and personal goals. However, we know that as we move forward, we need to address some of the concerns that have arisen given the state of the country right now.

Safety and security continue to be a driving force for our District. We have spent the summer strengthening our security processes and training our staff to make sure we prevent any potential incident and – God forbid – be ready to respond to any security breach that may come our way. Additionally, our Safety and Security Department, which is made up of our certified police officers and trained security guards, is also now armed with new training designed to better serve our students and staff. I am convinced that Canutillo ISD schools remain among the safest places for children and teachers, and it is my priority to keep it that way.

That said, Monday’s start of school will be marked by excitement and possibilities.

Our teachers remain committed to the level of instruction that has made Canutillo the only Back-to-Back A rated school district in the region. This past week I spent time visiting campuses and talking to teachers as they received training ahead of the start of the school year. I am heartened by the level of commitment that is evident in the training. Parents should feel confident that their children are in the best hands in El Paso County.

To meet the needs of our community, Canutillo ISD is ready to tackle amazing new opportunities for students and families. I look forward to sharing with you more information about programming opportunities like P-TECH and Montessori Pre-K that will bring transformative instruction to our schools.

I’m also excited to share with you that we are launching a new initiative to give you all the information you need to stay on top of the latest news in Canutillo ISD. I recorded our first episode of the Canutillo ISD Podcast that is now posted on our website. We’re still working out some kinks and we promise to improve on the podcast, but I felt it important to diversify our avenues of information to the community. Check out the podcast and let us know what you think.

As you can see, there’s a lot of great things happening in Canutillo. Have a restful weekend. See you bright and early on Monday morning!
