Celebrate Good Times, Come on

Message from the Superintendent Dear Canutillo Community,

Homecoming week is a time of celebration and pride. All week long we have seen tremendous participation from every campus in our deep desire to show that the Spirit of Canutillo is alive and well. This year’s Homecoming Parade was the largest parade we have had in our history, with more than 50 floats and units participating down Doniphan Drive and well over 1,000 people lining up the street to see our students, teachers and community members show off that Eagle Pride.

One special float along the parade was that of our 2022 Canutillo High School Outstanding Ex, Gonzalo & Sofia Garcia Elementary School Principal Maria Alarcon. I was delighted to find out that the high school chose Ms. Alarcon as the honored ex because she has shown tremendous leadership and foresight in improving the lives of children in our region. Ms. Alarcon is a Canutillo Eagle through and through. After graduation from high school, she went on to college and began her career in the Ysleta Independent School District before quickly realizing she needed to come to CISD. For decades, she has spent time as a teacher, assistant principal and now principal in our schools. This year alone, she was one of the instructional leaders who spearheaded our efforts to start the first public Montessori program in the region. Congratulations, Ms. Alarcon. Well deserved honor!

Make sure to congratulate Ms. Alarcon tonight at the annual homecoming game. Our Canutillo Eagles have a tough opponent in Parkland High School, but I know Coach Brooks has what it takes to get the win and deliver for all the fans during this special game.

I also want to thank all the students who worked so hard this week to make homecoming celebrations a great success. From our elementary and middle schools to our high schools and even the central office, it was so much fun to get in the spirit of Hoco!

Lastly, I want to congratulate the entire Jose H. Damian Elementary School Family on the 30th anniversary of their school. Principal Dr. AnaElisa Lee and her team did a fantastic job on Friday morning in making the official celebration a great success. JDE has been a source of inspiration and academic excellence for three decades and we look forward to at least another three decades of instructional prowess.

Thank you also to the Damian Family for coming out to the ceremony and participating in our celebration. Mr. Damian was a founding father of our District and it is an honor to carry on his legacy at JDE and throughout Canutillo ISD.
