Happy Holidays Canutillo

Message from the Superintendent Dear Canutillo Community,

The classrooms and offices of the Canutillo Independent School District are filled with the joyous sounds of the holidays and our students and employees are certainly excited about the idea of the upcoming winter break. I’ve spent this past week attending holiday concerts, special Christmas presentations and too many tamales (if that is even possible!). This is what Christmas in Canutillo is about: families, community and togetherness.

As we head into the well-deserved two week break, I can’t help but look back at 2022 and marvel at everything we have been able to accomplish together. Not only were we able to return to in-person instruction in a safe and healthy manner, we did it outperforming every school district in sight. Our students and teachers came through and gave us two amazing recognitions: that third A Rating from the Texas Education Agency and the title of Best Small School District in Texas from the HEB Excellence in Education Foundation. Add to that the countless other accolades we have received like the Region 19 Secondary Teacher of the Year, the amazing run by the Canutillo High School football team, the unprecedented performance of the Eagle Pride Marching Band and many, many more stories of successes.

Of course, this year was also one of a couple of disappointments for the District, including the failure of the Every Child, Every School Bond in November. We refuse to dwell on these issues, however, and choose instead to learn from these experiences and grow from the lessons we have learned.

As we get ready to celebrate the holidays with our friends and loved ones, I want to wish everyone in Canutillo a restful and safe winter break. May this time off with your family fill you with the energy and drive to help close off the school year strong.

See you students back in school on Jan. 4! Employees, we will see you on Jan. 3!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Canutillo!
