Happy New Year

Message from the Superintendent Dear Canutillo Community,

Happy New Year! Our students and staff are back from the winter break and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them back for the spring semester. We hope that everyone had a restful and happy break. We know you have been hard at work in helping us retain the title of the Best Small School District in Texas and El Paso’s Triple-A Rated School District!

As we head into the second half of the 2022-23 school year, I trust that we are all re-energized and ready to tackle the challenges of the spring semester. I have every bit of confidence that our teachers have the skills and talent to do everything our students need to be successful in their classes, the state assessments and – ultimately – their professional lives. This spring semester will be filled with tons of learning, amazing celebrations and tons of success.

We kicked off the semester with a couple of incidents that tested our safety and security preparedness. On Wednesday, we went into a Secure safety protocol at Bill Childress Elementary and the Transportation Facility following reports of a police investigation in the area. Then, on Thursday, Davenport Elementary was placed on lockdown when police responded to some criminal activity in the desert area near the campus. I am happy to report that both incidents were resolved without any impact to our schools or facilities.

I want to commend the students and staff at the schools and facility for responding quickly and appropriately. Their work and collaboration with our CISD Police Department showed a level of preparation that should give our parents and community comfort. Without a doubt, Canutillo schools have placed special attention to the safety of our campuses, and we will continue to work to improve and strengthen our response to any perceived threat to our students and staff.

Once again, welcome back Canutillo. Let’s continue our path forward and make the rest of the school year our best yet!
