The Canutillo Middle School Honor Band and Percussion Ensemble earned first-place gold at the WorldStrides Anaheim Heritage Festival, prompting the champions to exclaim: “We are going to Disneyland!”
Thankfully for them, the competition was in Anaheim, Calif., and the world-famous resort was nearby.
“I am extremely proud of our Honor Band and Percussion Ensemble,” said CMS Band Director Christian Rodriguez. “For months they have been working very hard by practicing daily and attending early morning rehearsals to bring their best effort to Anaheim. Their hard work paid off with them coming up on top at this competition.”
The CMS bands played a trio of songs for the judges at the Sunny Hills Performing Arts Center in Anaheim. In the end, both groups earned top honors in the junior categories. The team was supported by a team of staff members and parents who traveled to California to hear them play.
The Eagles celebrated their victory by spending the day making memories at the Magic Kingdom. They also took part in other California tourist attractions like whale watching, sight seeing and enjoying sand and sun at the beach.
