Canutillo ISD announced an expansion to its early childhood education offerings that includes two programs aimed specifically at families with young learners.

Starting in the fall, Canutillo Elementary School will house a full-day, dual-language Pre-K 3 Preschool Program designed to onboard 3-year-old children onto their educational career using the innovative Reggio Emilia philosophy of self-discovery and emotional wellbeing.

Additionally, Deanna Davenport Elementary will serve as the second site in Canutillo ISD to offer the popular Montessori program for families who wish to embark their 3-year-olds into this play-based instructional framework that has been around for nearly a century.

“Canutillo continues to seek opportunities to better serve our community, and the expansion of our early childhood education program is an important part of our approach to high-quality instruction,” said Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz. “By adding Pre-K 3 and a second Montessori site, we are telling our community that we are redoubling our efforts to set a great foundation for education that will pay dividends in the future.”

The Canutillo Elementary Pre-K 3 Preschool joins the Pre-K 4 and Kinder offerings at all other campuses in providing high-rigor instruction to the area’s youngest learners using an innovative curriculum and dual-language practices.

The Davenport Montessori program is an expansion to the program the District began last school year at Garcia Elementary as the first free and public Montessori program in the region. Both programs continue to use Maria Montessori lessons combined with the award-winning dual-language practices developed in Canutillo.

Both new programs are free of charge to qualifying families based on state language and socio-economic requirements. However, the District is making several slots available to non-qualifying families in an effort to give access to high-quality child educational programming to as many families in the county as possible.
