Pre-K & Kindergarten

Your child must be 4 years old by September 1. In order to get into PreK, your child needs to meet only ONE of the following requirements:

• Does not speak or understand English
• Eligible for the Free or Reduced – Price Lunch Program
• Homeless
• Has a parent that is active duty military or active duty reserve
• Is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing
• Has a parent that was an active duty member of the armed forces, state military forces or reserve component who was injured or killed while serving on active duty  (see more information below)

Additionally, you will need to provide:

• Your Child’s Birth Certificate
• Two proofs of residency (Gas, Water or Electric Bill, or Military Housing Orders)
• Current Immunization record
• Parent/Guardian identification
• Proof of income
• Your Child’s Social Security Card*
  
  *If your child does not have a Social Security Card, he/she can still enroll.

CanutilloISD is offering full-day universal pre-k to young learners in our District. Each campus offers a section of universal pre-k that provides students the opportunity to engage in a 50/50 dual language model of education focused on learning in both English and Spanish. Due to limited capacity, this opportunity will be on a first-come first-served basis. Check with your campus of interest for more information.

Pre-Kinder/Kindergarten (if new to the district) Parent Orientation Class 2026-2027

This is a mandatory orientation class for all parents of students entering Pre-K or new
students to the district enrolling in Kindergarten 2026-2027. The classes will be offered in person and through the Platform Webex.

The topics to be addressed are:

• Texas Attendance Law
• Multi-Tiered System (MTSS) of Positive Behavior Interventions Support (PBIS: for school and families)
• Information on Academic Language Services/Migrant Program

The parenting orientation sessions are open to parents of all elementary campuses in the school district. Please select the session you want to attend based on date, time and language of your preference.

Please Note: The class is 2 hours and no one will be admitted after 10 minutes of the
scheduled start time. (Please plan accordingly.)

If you are enrolling your child using the military criteria, you will need to also provide:

• A copy of the DOD Photo ID for the child
• A copy of the State of Service Form or A copy of the Death Certificate
• A copy of the Purple Heart orders or a copy of the Line of Duty Determination documentation
• A copy of appropriate documentation for the service member who is missing in action
• A letter from the Department of Family and Protective Services indicating conservatorship
• If your student qualifies for PreK, he/she will be eligible for the entire school year. Once enrolled, your child should begin at the assigned school.

Canutillo ISD is excited to expand its early childhood program by enrolling 3-year-olds in the first public Montessori program in the region. This free, dual-language program at Gonzalo & Sofia Garcia Elementary School offers young children in the community an opportunity to learn at their own pace through hands-on experiences while developing real-world skills.
