Guiding Solutions

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

The confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson by the United States Senate to serve as the first black female justice to sit on the Supreme Court marked a pivotal point in history. Looking at the greater picture, it is not about political affiliation but about representation. It is about every young girl and boy in this country being able to see themselves in authority figures, especially those charged with upholding our constitutional rights. Justice Jackson’s confirmation is transformational in that it makes for the first time in history when the nation’s highest court will look a lot more like the nation it represents, allowing our youth to see diversity at all levels, inspiring them to dream bigger.

Moving Forward
As we continue to plan for another year, we continue to address the pressing needs of the District. We have a number of deferred maintenance projects pending, such as roofing at several campuses, overcrowding at Reyes Elementary, while enrollment at Deanna Davenport Elementary is declining. In the best interest of our students, we can’t start a new year with RES being at 114% capacity. We are continuing to take feedback from our community, staff and teachers on how to address our needs and will follow through with solutions that are best for our students’ success.

Through ThoughtExchange, I  heard your thoughts from Lever 1, such as concerns with technical issues, the importance of increased funding for facilities and maintenance, hiring more custodial workers, financial integrity and transparency and improving all around customer service at all levels of the District. Please know as we reach out for your thoughts on Lever 2,  your feedback is guiding solutions.

ThoughtExchange, I want to hear from you
As mentioned above, I want to hear from you! The district is currently working on its 5-year strategic plan that consists of 5 levers focused on optimal district operations, measurable growth, staff & student support, family engagement and a strong, positive culture and image amongst stakeholders.

I invite you to share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions on how best to achieve maximum success in Lever 2: student achievement.

Examples of measurable student growth include:

  • Students reading at grade level by 3rd grade.
  • Students achieving Meeting and Masters on state tests.
  • Students being bilingual.
  • Students earning an indicator for College and Career Readiness.
Examples that are harder to measure are:
  • Students having honor in conduct and integrity.
  • Students being physically,  socially, and emotionally healthy.

Tell us what your thoughts are about student achievement and how to measure them.

We will be using your thoughts to inform our strategic planning. We are using ThoughtExchange so everyone has a chance to share their perspectives and understand what’s most important to the group.

Please share your thoughts and then rate at least 25-30 of the thoughts that others have shared. Your participation is confidential, so no one will know who shared or rated which thoughts. Come back often until March 11 at noon to rate new ideas.
