Remembering and Honoring

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

On behalf of Canutillo ISD, we are deeply saddened about the loss of Dr. Karen Trujillo, Superintendent of Las Cruces Public Schools. As you grieve, know that we are remembering and honoring her.

In light of the tragic loss, it is in the spirit of education that I am encouraged to hear of the many wonderful accomplishments that our students and staff are achieving.

Congratulations to our Canutillo High School girls basketball team for their historic season and run in the playoffs, becoming area champions by defeating a tough Amarillo in overtime. Also, congratulations to the eight Canutillo High School students from the CISD School of Music who competed in the Region 22 UIL Solo & Ensemble competition and earned a First Division rating.

I want to give a shout-out to our District communications team. Canutillo ISD was honored for outstanding school communications and received 17 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Star Awards – including two Best in Category. They play an important role in communicating vital information and highlighting the District’s accomplishments to the community.

Don’t forget that Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is once again providing free income tax preparation and support. On-site IRS-certified volunteers will be available to prepare basic returns for families or individuals with qualifying households.
