Rest & Celebration

Message from the Superintendent Dear Canutillo Community,

This week, while most students got the first of much-deserved two-week break, hundreds of students throughout the Canutillo Independent School District spent their day back in the classroom getting additional instruction to help them meet their academic goals for the school year. Intersession instruction has become for us a way to remediate and supplement the great work that our teachers do in the classroom during our regular instruction. I was so impressed with the level of commitment from both our teachers and our students who showed up this week to our schools to learn with a smile on their face. Congratulations to them. I am certain their work will pay off at the end!

This week was also a festive one because the Northwest Early College High School Griffins celebrated their homecoming with tons of enthusiasm and spirit. I was happy to attend their annual homecoming soccer game and the photos of all the dress-up days and lunchtime fun looked amazing. Northwest is going above and beyond in creating new and robust homecoming traditions. I look forward to watching those traditions take root and blossom into something even more special. Happy homecoming, Griffins!

We have one more reason to celebrate this month. October is National Principals Month, and Canutillo ISD is lucky to have 10 amazing campus leaders who are helping our students succeed. I am a strong believer that our classroom teachers are the key to success, and that our principals are the leaders that help teachers meet their goals. I want to personally thank Ms. Clapsaddle, Mr. Clark, Mr. Judge, Ms. Avila, Mr. Alvarez, Ms. Montañez, Mr. Flores, Ms. Alarcon, Dr. Lee and Ms. Carrillo for helping us become the Best Small School District in Texas and El Paso’s Triple-A Rated School District. Happy Principals Month!

A quick reminder that all District schools and offices, with the exception of Northwest Early College, will be closed for intersession next week. We will see you back on Monday, Oct. 17. I am sure we all will be re-energized and ready to take on the rest of the fall semester. Have an amazing break, Canutillo!
