Rise Above

Message from the SuperintendentDear Canutillo community,

I want to extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims of the outbreak of tornadoes that ripped across multiple states causing mass devastation and destruction in their path. Let us continue to pray for the survivors and those who lost their homes and loved ones.

January kicks off Texas Association of School Boards Board Recognition Month 2022. This year’s theme is “Rising Above.” What an appropriate theme for all the challenges faced the past couple years. It reminds us to rise above any adversity and division and focus on providing our students with an exceptional education. A new year means renewed opportunities to leave the past behind and focus on what’s to come.

I have been keeping you informed of the pressing needs of the district to include deferred maintenance projects, overcrowding at Reyes Elementary and the need to pay back our investment of the electronic devices for our students. This past week we covered some ground in our discussions on how to address these critical needs.

I hope we take this holiday break to carefully consider and reflect on how we can come together to collaborate and compromise on what is best for our students while addressing our needs.

I encourage you to take the time to engage with us and join the discussion by providing feedback and ideas through the ThoughtExchange platform at: canutillo-isd.org/thoughtexchange.

COVID-19 Updates
COVID-19 variant omicron is on the rise and spreading quickly. We have provided a host of vaccination clinics this past week to make sure our community and students have ample opportunity to get vaccinated before our holiday break. I wish you much joy this holiday season with your family and loved ones but please be mindful to follow all precautions to keep ourselves and others healthy.

Faculty, staff, parents/guardians and students, please note that if during the holiday break you test positive for COVID-19, you must self- report to the Department of Health system. You can do so at this link: https://elpasotx.seamlessdocs.com/f/SelfDisclosureCovid19ResultsForm.

During the holiday break, you must also report your positive diagnosis to the district for clearance to return to work or school after the break. You can do so at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf4QwQt-Np5J8pCdONFoRD7ZWxCcWFncildhGNDGIS33yUInA/viewform

Holiday District Closure
Last day of instruction for students is Friday, Dec. 17. District offices and campuses will be closed from Dec. 20 through Dec.31. Students return to school on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

I wish you all a very happy holiday season and new year! I am excited that with a new year comes new and broadened opportunities for us to work on behalf of our students.
